FreedomPop: Turn Your iPod touch Into A Makeshift iPhone (With Free Data!)

Quite a lot of cool stuff has come out of Kickstarter (so much that we can’t cover it all), but this may just be the pick of the bunch. Imagine free data. Then imagine if you could turn your iPod touch into an iPhone. FreedomPop does both. Stick your iPod touch in the sleeve, and then you get 500MB of data FREE a month for life (upgradable if you want to pay). Cool, eh?

There are some quite severe restrictions with regard to coverage: it’s only available in the US and even then it’s limited (big cities are fine but fairly remote states like Arizona and Montana aren’t covered, for more info see here). However if it’s available to you (and you have an iPod touch), then definitely consider it.

Unlike many other cool projects, this one hasn’t been wildly successful in terms of reaching it’s goal (only $25,000 of $100,000) so it’s even more worth backing. To get the case itself you’ll need to provide $99, which is pretty reasonable considering you’re getting free data forever. If I could, I would.
