Samsung Designer: We Didn’t Rip Off Apple’s Icons!

After Apple released a document last week fairly clearly showing that Samsung borrowed heavily from Apple’s icon designs, today a Samsung designer stepped forward to state that, in fact, she didn’t copy Apple when creating those icons.

AllThingsD reports:

A Samsung Electronics designer testified on Tuesday that she didn’t copy Apple when creating the icons for the Galaxy line of products.

“Not at all,” senior user experience designer Jeeyuen Wang said, through an interpreter. Wang testified that, for example, Samsung considered many different possible phone icons for the Galaxy, including a picture of a cellphone or smartphone, but settled on an image of a traditional phone because that resonated best with users.

The practical translation of Wang’s defense is someone standing up, saying “nuh-uh,” and calling that an argument. Wang claims that Samsung considered many different designs, but didn’t actually demonstrate how Samsung’s designs were at all unique.

It doesn’t matter how many designs you considered, Samsung, if you decided to use icons extremely similar to Apple’s icons in the end.
