Wharton School Of Business Offers Engraved 32GB iPads To Students And Staff

Since Apple allowed customers to engrave iPads in October 2010, many have decided to inscribe personal messages or names, even if organisations until now refrained from doing it. However that’s changed, as many have begun to order engraved iPads, just like the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, which offers engraved 32GB ones to students and staff, TUAW reports.

Dan Alig, the school’s senior IT director, said this was something two years in the making:

Because it’s a fully funded program, we buy the units on the student’s behalf. The goal of the pilot was to enable a very mobile student population with a more portable version of their course material.

The customisation also extends to the software, with a custom Wharton wallpaper, video and bookmarks in Safari.

TUAW:

After seeing the pilot-program students with the custom iPads, other students, faculty and alumni began inquiring about purchasing them. Because the logo engraving is only available for bulk institutional orders, Alig said, Apple worked with Wharton and campus reseller Penn Computer Connection to make the custom iPads available for sale.

So if you’re associated with Wharton, you should be able to get your hands on one pretty easily. How cool is that?
