Apple Promotes iOS 6 Maps Alternatives in App Store

After Tim Cook’s apology earlier today, Apple has now created a dedicated section in the App Store where users can view alternatives to Apple’s Maps, which include Garmin and Bing.

The section can be viewed on both the iPhone and iPad, and is promoted on the front page of the “featured” App Store listing. You can also view a full list of all apps in the category using iTunes on your Mac:

Again, it’s another good move by Apple, and while it’s not subsidising the cost, at least it’s pointing customers in the right direction to where they can find a better alternative like MapQuest, Navigon, or Garmin.
