Verizon and AT&T Launch 4G LTE in New Markets Ahead of iPhone 5 Release

Verizon and AT&T have added 4G LTE in multiple markets across the United States in anticipation of Friday’s launch of the iPhone 5, Apple’s first 4G LTE capable smartphone.

Verizon has added 4G coverage in the following markets:

  • American Falls, Idaho
  • Americus, Georgia
  • Aspen-Snowmass, Colorado
  • Billing and Helena, Montana
  • Bremerton, Colorado
  • Coffeyvilley, Kansas
  • Cheyenne, Wyoming
  • Ellijay, Georgia
  • Emporia, Kansas
  • Greely Colorado
  • Lawrence, Kansas
  • Marion County, Ohio
  • Moultry, Georgia
  • Merced, California
  • Pueblo, Colorado
  • Richmond, Indiana
  • Silverdale, Colorado
  • Statesboro, Georgia
  • Tifton, Georgia

Verizon will be turning on 20 more markets tomorrow, including areas in Arizona, North Carolina, Illinois and Nebraska. Visit the Verizon website for a complete list.

AT&T has activated its 4G LTE network in the last week, in the following markets:

  • Birmingham, Ala.
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Fayetteville, N.C.
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Memphis, Tenn.
  • Pittsburgh, Penn.
  • Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Sacramento, Calif.
  • Seattle, Wash.
  • Wilmington, Dele.

The carrier has promised that 34 more markets will gain 4G LTE coverage before the end of the year.

The 4G LTE coverage is in addition to the “4G” signal many iPhone 4S users see on their phones. AT&T began pushing its HSDPA network as 4G, saying it is capable of 4G-like speeds, even though it is not a true 4th-generation network.

Apple, in an attempt to clear up any possible confusion, displays a “LTE” symbol in the upper-left corner of the iPhone 5 and 3rd-generation iPad when the devices receive a true 4G LTE signal.
