Comparison: iPhone 5 Mini-Dock Connector vs Micro USB (Photos)

With Apple’s new iPhone due to be announced on Wednesday, new images have now surfaced providing additional insight into the micro-dock connector expected to be featured on the device.

The photos were posted over the weekend by NowhereElse.fr, and compare the new mini-dock connector with MicroUSB, revealing that the two connectors are very similar in size. Numerous rumors, leaked images, and reports from a number of credible sources have all indicated that the new iPhone will feature a smaller dock connector.

Also of note is that the photos line up with previous leaks, and show that the connector features 8 pins, with the metal shell serving as a 9th pin. This also lines up well with references found in iOS 6 to a 9-pin connector.

Besides the iPhone 5, the new smaller connector is expected to find its way into all of Apple’s iOS devices as new and updated products are released. We’ll know for sure about the smaller dock connector in just a few days.

Apple’s new iPhone is expected to feature a taller 4-inch screenthinner design, and a two-tone metal rear casing, as well as a smaller dock connector, relocated FaceTime camera, global LTE support, and a new smaller nano-SIM.
