iPhone Resale Values Dropping After iPhone 5 Announcement

If you haven’t sold your iPhone 4/4S by now, you’d better get a move on! Reports are coming in that iPhone resale prices are dropping faster than an AT&T phone signal.

Cult of Mac:

In the two days since Apple announced the iPhone 5, values on used iPhones have already dropped as much as 8%. Once the iPhone 5 hits shelves next week, values are expected to drop even faster.

Last week Nextworth would’ve offered $300 for your 16GB iPhone 4S, this week it’s already dropped to $273. Other sites like Amazon, Gazelle, and USell have all lowered their offers.

All news on the resale front isn’t bad though, Apple’s Reuse and Recycling Program is still offering $285 for the 16GB iPhone 4S, and I just got offers of $200 for my wife’s 16GB iPhone 4, and $300 for my 16GB iPhone 4S from eBay.

How are you going to sell you phone before you actually get the new phone in your possession, activate it and wipe the old handset for resale…sounds like some pretty silly supply and demand economics to me.

    1. People make arrangements on prices, and then agree to make the exchange later. The trade in sites also let you keep your iPhone until October if you lock in your price now. Just some tips for people as they prepare to make the transition.

Good to know; I had wondered the same as Steve-O. Or if you have an old backup phone, you can activate that one in the meantime. That’s if you can bear to be iPhone-less for several days.
