Sharp Says They Are Supplying iPhone 5 Displays to Apple in ‘Adequate Volumes’

A Sharp executive insists the LCD supplier for Apple’s new iPhone 5 is not having any problems supplying displays to Apple.

AppleInsider:

The unnamed Sharp official made the comments at a press briefing in Osaka, Japan, and spoke on condition he would not be identified, according to Reuters. The comments suggest that any earlier issues the company was rumored to have experienced have since passed.

Sharp was reported to have been experiencing low production yields of the new in-cell panel. An unnamed source, speaking with Reuters, specualted that Apple might “sweeten financial incentives to secure an acceleration of production.”

In addition to Sharp, Apple’s iPhone 5 displays are being supplied by LG Display and  Japan Display Inc., a joint venture from the LCD operations of Sony and Hitachi.

The new in-cell technology being used in the screens for the new iPhone 5 allows the screen to be thinner, which has been a major contribution to the iPhone 5 being both thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
