Laurene Powell Jobs to Joins Stanford University Board of Trustees

Stanford and the Jobs family have a always had a close connection. Steve delivered a legendary commencement address at the graduation ceremony in 2005 while Laurene received her MBA in 1991 from the same university. To further the link, it was announced today that Laurene will join the board of trustees from October first, TechCrunch reports.

Powell Jobs will be joining a board of trustees that currently lists 32 others, including VCs like Steven Denning from General Atlantic and Bruce Dunlevie from Benchmark Capital; Ronald B. Johnson, the CEO of J.C. Penney; and co-founder and former CEO of Yahoo, Jerry Yang.

Powell has had a history of being involved in education: she is president of the board of College Track, an after school college preparation program for students in need as well as founder of the Emerson Collective, an NPO that supports social entrepreneurs.

Before she became involved in philanthropy and education, Powell was an investment banker and also helped a natural foods company.
