Walmart to Start Taking iPhone 5 Pre-orders at 8 AM, Sept. 14

Big box retailer Walmart won’t be left out of Apple’s iPhone 5 pre-order party. The retailer announced today that they will begin taking pre-orders in their retail stores at 8 AM local time on September 14th.

Bloomberg reports (via 9to5Mac):

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer, will take pre-orders for the new Apple Inc. iPhone for the first time and offer discounts on the device.

The iPhone 5, announced yesterday, can be ordered tomorrow at 8 a.m. at U.S. stores […] The newest version of the best-selling smartphone will sell for $189.97 with a two-year contract, Spencer said. That’s cheaper than the $199 price announced by Apple, which will also begin taking orders tomorrow.

It’s unclear how many units each store will be able to pre-order, but if you feel like saving about $9, and don’t mind risking the chance that pre-orders will sell out before Walmart begins taking orders, head on over to your local Walmart first thing in the morning!
