Fortune: Apple to Issue Invitations for iPad Mini Event on October 10

It’s been a while since we’ve seen much movement on iPad Mini rumors, but according to a new report from Fortune, Apple may be preparing to send out invitations on October 10th for an iPad Mini launch event.

Fortune (via 9to5Mac):

According to our source, who asked not be named, there appears to be some truth to the widespread rumors that Apple is preparing to launch a smaller and cheaper version of the iPad — often called the iPad mini or iPad air and usually described as having a 7.85-inch screen… What our source adds is the specificity of a date: The press, he says, can expect invitations to go out on Oct. 10.

There have been numerous rumors from credible sources suggesting an October announcement for a smaller 7.85-inch version of the iPad Mini, and if invitations are indeed sent to media on October 10th, an event on the 17th seems likely, considering Apple’s typical times between media invitations and actual events.

Fortune writer Philip Elmer-DeWitt does admit to some skepticism, except that it comes from a major Apple investor. Even so, it lines up nicely with what has been heard so far about the device.

The iPad mini is expected to be as thin as an iPod touch, and feature a narrow bezel, and is expected to be launched in October for between $200 and $300 (12). It will likely resemble a smaller version of the iPad 2.
