The iPhone 5 Made Up 21% of Verizon’s iPhone Activations in Q3 2012

Verizon reported its earnings for the third quarter of 2012 today, the first of the major carriers to release their numbers for the period. The report gives us a peek into iPhone sales just a week before Apple is scheduled to report its numbers.

MacRumors:

In a conference call following the earnings release, Verizon revealed that it activated 3.1 million iPhones during the quarter, representing approximately 46% of its total smartphone activations of 6.8 million. The iPhone activation number was up from 2.7 million in the previous quarter that saw Apple garnering a similar 45% share of Verizon’s smartphone activations.

Verizon noted that 21% of its iPhone activations during the period were for devices running on their LTE network, which comes out to a little over 650,000 iPhone 5 activations in just the last 10 days of the quarter.

On the conference call, it was mentioned that Verizon’s total iPhone added to their network equaled 3.1 million for the quarter, 1.1 million more than a year ago. That’s a 55% increase year-over-year.

AT&T and Sprint are slated to report their results next week, and Apple’s announcement and conference call is set for the close of trading on October 25.
