Samsung Files Patent Infringement Suit Against iPhone 5

In late August, Apple scored a huge victory over Samsung in U.S. Courts, ruling that several Samsung devices infringe on a number of Apple’s patents.  Now, it appears that Samsung has fired back at Apple, filing a patent suit against the newest Apple smartphone, the iPhone 5. In a statement obtained by Reuters on Monday, Samsung claimed

“We have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights,”

Samsung’s claim against the the iPhone 5 asserts that it infringes on two UMTS standards patents, as well as six “feature patents” already targeted at pervious iPhone models.  The suit from Samsung comes just after a U.S. court lifts the sales ban on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.

While Samsung’s claims of patent infringement certainly come as no surprise to Apple, it is clear that the patent war between Apple and Samsung is far from over. Samsung Filing Against iPhone 5
