Apple Expected to Begin Selling Unlocked U.S. iPhone 5s as Early as Today

According to information received by 9to5Mac, official unlocked models of the iPhone 5 are set to hit Apple’s online store and retail stores in the very near future – and possibly as early as tonight.

9to5Mac:

Apple will begin selling an unlocked version of its iPhone 5 through its online store as soon as 9 PM tonight, according to our retail sources. The unlocked iPhone 5 price range will likely be $649, $749, and $849 depending on a choice of either 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage.

Additionally, Apple’s chain of retail stores will begin selling the unlocked devices soon, but have yet to be provided a start sales date. However, the unlocked iPhone 5 units have begun arriving at Apple’s stores.

While Verizon iPhones have unlocked SIM slots, and AT&T iPhone 5s purchased at full price already come unlocked, Apple has so far not officially offered unlocked iPhone 5s in the U.S. without going through a carrier in some manner.

The unlocked models will retail for $649, $749, and $849 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models, respectively.
