iPhone 5 Receives Final Certification from Chinese Regulators

A report from the Wall Street Journal says the iPhone 5 has received final certification from Chinese regulators, clearing the path for the launch of the device on carriers China Unicom and China Telecom.

The Wall Street Journal, via MacRumors:

Vendors in China often start selling new handsets within weeks of approval by China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center.

…The regulator said in two posts on its website that it had approved licenses for an iPhone supported by China Telecom and one supported by China Unicom.

China Telecom chairman Wang Xiaochu had previously said that the iPhone 5 would be launching on his carrier by early December. The carrier was reported to have been taking pre-orders recently.

China now accounts for 15% of Apple’s revenue, seeing revenues for the company rise 78%, to $23.8 billion in fiscal 2012.
