Photo Taken With iPhone 4S Makes Cover Of TIME Magazine

TIME Magazine is one of the most iconic magazines ever, and this month’s edition is rather special: the picture on the cover of waves during Hurricane Sandy was taken entirely using an iPhone 4S, TUAW reports.

Ben Lowy, who specialises in conflict photography from Afghanistan to Iraq decided to have a go at taking some photos of the Hurricane that struck the East Coast last week, and one of them ended up on the TIME cover.

Lowy uses only is iPhone for both capturing and editing the photos. He carries two iPhones in case one breaks, as well as extra Mophie Juice battery packs. In terms of apps, his preference lies with Hipstamatic and Snapseed. He also uses Instagram for sharing purposes.

Asked what he felt about the contrast between his thin phone and a bulky Canon DSLR, Lowy had this to say:

People don’t think twice about it. It’s a fast little camera and I do like that on a tough assignment.

Even though he admits that sometimes ‘pros will push me aside’.

If he has one criticism of the iPhone, it’s to do with low light performance.

What you are giving up is some creative control. You can do some things with filters, but the iPhone camera does have limitations.

His photos are highly impressive. I would recommend checking them out on his official website here.
