Autodesk Releases Smoke 2013, Will Cost $3,495

I’m a huge fan of all Autodesk software, and so the news that Smoke 2013, which combines a video editor with effects, is now shipping could not have made me happier (via 9to5Mac). It is fairly standard Autodesk pricing though: one license costs $3,495.

Mark Strassman of Autodesk:

The anticipation for Smoke, since its thrilling announcement at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Vegas in April, has continued to build throughout the community of creative professionals. As a leader in high-end effects and 3D, Autodesk is committed to making that technology increasingly available to a new generation, and the new Smoke is case in point. The Smoke team has fielded thousands of inquiries and product recommendations in the process of developing Smoke 2013. I’m so excited to announce it’s here.

Comparing this to Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5, where both are separated, if I were a professional I’d definitely be more inclined to get one program for everything than have to buy an additional piece of software to get the desired effects.

You can buy Smoke 2013 here, but we’ll have to wait and see whether it will be available for free to the Autodesk Student Community.
