Born In The USA: Some New iMacs Being Assembled In The US

We all know the two sentences you find on every Apple product. ‘Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.’ But wait a second. Fortune reports that some customers have reported seeing ‘Assembled In USA’ on their new iMacs, even though it seems that this doesn’t apply to all of them.

A reader — let’s call him Aaron Gong — wrote Saturday to say that he bought a new 21-inch iMac at an Apple Store in San Jose, Calif., and was surprised when he opened the box to see it marked “Assembled in USA” rather than in China, as we’ve all come to expect.

However Fortune pointed out that others did indeed have ‘Assembled in China’ on the sticker.

The iMac iFixit tore down was apparently assembled in the USA though, so it really depends, one assumes, on which configuration you have
