Custom Server Rack Packs 160 Mac Minis

Mac minis as servers are nothing new. In fact, since the Xserve’s discontinuation, they’ve probably been the best selling Apple server machine, ahead of the Mac Pro.

However a man called Steve (via Cult of Mac) has designed and built probably the most kickass Mac mini server rack out there. As well as the badass fans on the door, this thing can hold 160 Mac minis. Considering the amount of space in the rack that’s quite insane.

Come to think of it Mac mini racks are really that new either. Quite a few colocation services use Mac minis, but Steve has managed to pack a lot of them in extremely tightly to a traditional rack, and that’s what makes this special.

If you did the maths, that works out at 640 cores for the entire rack. Not bad!
