Apple Acknowledges iOS 6 ‘Do Not Disturb” Bug, Says it Will Remain Broken Until January 7th

Following reports that the Do not Disturb feature in iOS 6 contains an unfortunate bug preventing it from disabling itself (and potentially making users late for work or appointments), Apple has officially acknowledged the issue with a new support article. Unfortunately, there is no solution – but according to Apple, the problem will fix itself after January 7.

 From Apple’s support document:

Symptoms

After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.

Resolution

Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.

To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

It’s a very disappointing response, to be sure – especially for users who depend on the feature – and seems very much below Apple’s standard for taking care of significant bugs in their mobile platform. An apology to users and an official statement noting that they screwed up would be most welcome…

Until the feature fixes itself on January 7th, users are advised to manually turn the feature on and off as required. Very disappointing indeed.
