Apple Honored With Technology and Engineering Emmy Award at CES 2013

While Apple does not attend the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, their shadow still looms large over the event in the form of the massive number of iOS device and Mac accessories at the event, as well as the many companies responding to Apple’s product lines, and attempting to beat Apple to market on future products, like the rumored Apple television.

This year, Apple loomed large at the event in another important way: By winning a  Technology and Engineering Emmy Award at the convention! The awards are selected by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Here are a few more details on how winners are chosen from the official CES 2013 awards page:

Awards are presented to an individual, company, or to a scientific or technical organization for developments and/or standardization involved in engineering technologies which either represent an extensive improvement on existing methods or are so innovative in nature that they materially have affected the transmission, recording, or reception of television.

Specifically, Apple was awarded the under under the category of “Eco-system for Real Time Presentation of TV Content to Mobile Devices without the use of Specialized Television Hardware.” If the Apple TV is just a “hobby,” as Tim Cook has stated, it certainly is a damn impressive one.

It’s unclear exactly which technology Apple won the award for, but Jim Dalrymple of The Loop points out that it could be related to their “iTunes in the Cloud” service, which makes movies, TV shows, and other purchased media available across all Apple devices.

If only my hobbies won international awards…
