Apple Seeds iOS 6.1 Beta 5 to Developers

In a rather unorthodox weekend release, Apple has begun seeding the 5th beta of iOS 6.1 to developers. The update was pushed out just 48 hours before the fourth beta was set to expire. As 9to5Mac notes, the 5th beta has some interesting properties – for instance, it is build like a final release, with no expiration date, and does NOT require a developer account to install.

When released, iOS 6.1 will feature a number of enhancements, such as improvements to Maps APIs for integration with other apps, movie ticket ordering through Siri, enhanced lock screen media controls, and more. iOS 6.1 beta 5 is available now to registered developers from Apple’s developer portal.
