Woz: Apple Has Fallen “Behind Somewhat” in the Smartphone Business

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has once again spoken about Apple and its competitors to Wirtschafts Woche (via MacRumors), a German business magazine. He reiterated what he has said on several occasions in the past: others have caught Apple up and that Samsung is a serious competitor, but stated that he was proud Apple had loyal fans.

Despite making the criticism of Apple, he did put a huge emphasis on how dedicated he was to the brand and the experience. It’s well known that he likes to queue outside on launch day, and while he says he could get it earlier or more easily, he wants to have the experience like every other customer.

Woz carries around a few iPhones and a few Android phones all at once, so he’s a pretty good candidate to ask about the state of smart phones in general. I don’t want to start a war down in the comments, but I think that Apple’s co-founder does have a point.

  1. Jack Burrows says:

I totally agree. I love Apple and what they stand for. But, I can’t help thinking – they could do SO much more.

  2. Daisy Louise says:

I appreciate that they focus on build quality as well. My iphone 5 had taken some falls and came out of it like a champ! I have every confidence that they will make great strides elsewhere as well. They don’t have to innovate everything for me to stay with them.

  3. MRonin ⚜ says:

Sorry but, Woz’s motivations have been questionable for a while now. So every statement he gives should be run through an alternative motive/b.s. filter a couple times before being taken in or re-printed.

  4. Simon Meurs says:

I agree too, I think that they could do more, but I tried Windows Phone and Android and I don’t get the same experience from either as I get from iOS. It is true that it has become a little stoic, but it still delivers the best experience for me. Of course this is completely personal.
