Apple To The Rescue Again, Refunds £1,000 After In App Spending Bonanza

For the second time in the space of a month, Apple has had to get out the chequebook and refund the parents of an eight year old boy, The Belfast Telegraph reports (via Apple Insider). Theo Rowland-Fry racked up an in app spending bill of £980 in a Simpsons game for the iPad, something which was only noticed after the parents looked at the bank statement.

Belfast Telegraph:

Mr Rowland-Fry, from Felton, near Bristol, said that he had been refunded the £980 but was concerned that it could happen to other people.

“Theo is only just eight and has no real concept of the monetary value attached,” he told The Post. “As far as he was concerned he was just buying doughnuts.

“We know others caught out by the same thing.

“I appreciate children are their target audience but it is not right and there needs to be specific controls in place to stop this from happening.”

It’s amazing on often similar things are happening, when it’s just a case of toggling an option in the settings. Get a grip parents, you can save yourself a lot of stress when checking out the bank statement.
