ARM CEO Warren East Moves On After 12 Years In Charge

Chip designer ARM has always been a company close to my heart, mostly because it’s from where I live, Cambridge. More importantly though, it’s designed some killer chips for tablets and phones alike, and it’s definitely changed the innards of mobile technology.

However there is some big news coming out of the ARM camp today: Warren East, the CEO for 12 years, is moving on, to be replaced by President Simon Segars, Bloomberg reports. East will officially step down on July 1, and it has been some 12 years under his leadership.

ARM has been Apple’s chip designer for a while, with the Apple’s A4, A5 and A6 chip are all based on the ARM architecture – and future changes to ARM from a new CEO could affect future iOS devices. The company’s share price rose ten fold during the former CEO’s reign, with annual sales also going from 146 million pounds to 557 million. East said the company has turned into a ‘global phenomenon’ in a call with Bloomberg, which you can listen to here.

For ARM, it will be a case of continuing as it has been, and maintaining a presence inside all the mobile tech we know, love and use today. If it does that, a very bright future can be expected.
