Review: Iron Run for iOS – Run and Fight Your Way to Survival, Robot Style!

Let’s face it, there are plenty of Temple Run clones, you can run, jump, and slide through all kinds of environments, even the yellow brick road. so what makes Iron Run stand out, and makes it worth playing? Robots man, robots!

Overview

It’s the late 21st century, and the world is run by computers. (Not those guys again?) A city that has been corrupted by a rogue computer is marked for oblivion. You have to help the last survivor escape in his humanoid robot before the city is destroyed.

The premise is simple, you have to run to escape from the doomed city, and along the way you’ll slide, jump, and shoot to evade and destroy anything that gets in your way, As you progress, you can obtain better weapons, more powerful machines, and grab powerups to help you advance.

If you’ve played a Temple Run type game then you’ll have no problem picking this game up and running with it. It uses the same basic controls as other games of this type.

Even though it is a “Run” clone, the premise involving robots made it work for me. I love the controls, and their responsiveness made the game a pleasure.

The graphics in the game are not the best I’ve ever seen, but amazing graphics don’t necessarily make a great game. The graphics do their job, and the added feature of a driving music score adds to the intensity.

In game weapons and robot upgrades are by the standard “coins” system. While you can obtain coins via in-app purchase for real money, the developers also offer a way to obtain free coins if you download an advertised game, or respond to special offers also advertised inside the game. I like this option. Maybe it’ll help keep at least a couple of children from running up a huge tab on their parents’ credit cards.

Verdict

If you like the “run” games, Iron Run is worth a download. The price is right, (it’s free), and the game is worth a try. Running, jumping, sliding and shooting is engaging, and will definitely serve as a true time killer for you or your children. (Iron Run is rated 4+)

While the graphics could be better, and I really prefer it when apps use the full screen of the iPhone 5, Iron Run’s display provides enough detail and information to make the game enjoyable.

If you’re a fan of the “run” games, then “run” on over to the App Store and download Iron Run.

Rating:3.5/5[rating:3.5]

Price: FREE – Available for the iPhone and iPad in the App Store. [DIRECT LINK]

Pros:

  • Easy to learn and responsive controls.
  • A driving music score.
  • It’s easy to obtain coins without having to make in-app purchases with real money.
  • Robots baby! Robots!

Cons:

  • If it used the whole screen of the iPhone 5, and the graphics were a little better, it might have gotten another 1/2 a star. There’s just no excuse for an app not using the longer screen of the 5 by now.
