iMessage and FaceTime Hit With Widespread Global Outage

A number of users are experiencing problems as an outage of Apple’s iMessage and FaceTime services has occurred. Downtime is currently nearing two hours as of the time of this article.

Apple has confirmed the problems on its iCloud System Status page. It notes that some iMessage and FaceTime users are unable to send messages, or make video calls. The cause of the problem is currently unknown. The writer of this piece has not been affected by either outage, however a reader in Tennessee is seeing their iMessages go out as text messages, and is unable to make a FaceTime call.

This outage continues the spat of sporadic iCloud service outages in recent times. The issues are usually resolved in a few hours. With the current outage nearing two hours, we will keep you posted.

Update: According to Apple’s system status page, all service are now back up and running!
