Apple’s App Store Officially Reaches 50 Billion Downloads

In just under 5 years after first launching the App Store for iOS devices, Apple has updated their 50 Billion Download countdown page to announce that an astounding 50 billion apps have now been downloaded from the App Store – and 25 billion of those have occurred in just the past 14 months, following Apple’s announcement of 25 billion downloads in March of 2012.

The lucky person who downloaded the 50 billionth app will receive a $10,000 App Store give card, and the next 50 to download an app after the milestone will each receive a $5,000 App Store gift card. Apple will likely announce the official winner within the next day or two – and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear of the lucky winner’s identity!

Congrats, Apple, on hitting such an impressive milestone! How long do you think it will take before they hit 100 billion?
