Sorry, Microsoft Won’t be Bringing Xbox Games to iOS After All

We know we got you excited when we reported earlier this week that Microsoft was planning to bring Xbox and PC games to iOS. Unfortunately, those reports were due to the result of a translation error.

The news was first reported by Nikkei, which said that Microsoft would be bringing Xbox games to mobile platforms after signing a licensing deal with Klab, a Japanese smartphone gaming development company. This is where the rumor got a little mixed up. The partnership actually only covers the Age of Empires release for now. It could lead to more PC games coming to mobile in the future, but there’s no way any Xbox games will follow suit.

Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer responded to the rumors via Twitter: “The article is a translation error, we are not brining XBOX games to non-MS devices.”

So, it’s PC games possibly coming to iOS: YES. Xbox games coming to iOS: NO.

I thought that was a little odd. It just didn’t make sense for MS to potentially canniblize sales from it’s cash cow by making XBOX games available to iOS devices. Besides I can’t see being able to play Halo or Crysis on my iPad :-).
