iOS 7 Beta Indicates 120fps Support for Future iPhone Cameras

Code deep inside the latest beta release of iOS 7 show indications that Apple may be planning on adding a camera capable of recording video at 120 frames-per-second in a future model of the iPhone.

AppleInsider:

A new camera feature referred to as “Mogul” was allegedly discovered in the third beta of iOS 7 by9to5Mac. Tests suggested that the new software feature will allow video recording of 120 frames-per-second (fps) at an unknown resolution.

120fps video would allow a future iOS device to offer crisp detail when playing back slow motion video, similar to the video seen above. This type of functionality is seen in slow-motion replays on televised sporting events.

While the 120fps feature remains unconfirmed, Apple has revealed to developers that iOS 7 will give them the ability to record 60fps video in their iPhone apps.

It is important to note that indications of 120fps support in iOS 7 are not firm proof that such a feature will appear in the next iPhone. Indications of a panorama feature were unearthed in iOS 5 in 2011, more than a year before Apple would actually debut it.
