Google Maps for iOS Now Includes Waze Realtime Traffic Data

Google’s acquisition of crowd-sourced traffic and navigation service Waze earlier this year is beginning to bear fruit. Google announced on Tuesday that realtime traffic data from Waze is now included in its latest update of Google Maps for iOS.

AppleInsider:

The search giant announced on its official Lat Long blog on Tuesday that real time incident reports from Waze users will appear in the official Google Maps apps for both iOS and Android in the U.S. and U.K., as well as France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador.

The feature highway between the two apps runs both ways, as Google has also updated the Waze app for iOS and Android to include Google Search functionality.

The Waze Map Editor has also been updated with Google Street View and satellite imagery, making it easier for Waze users to correct map errors.

Google acquired Waze in June of this year, aiming to improve its own Google Maps via Waze’s crowd-sourced traffic and navigation data. As of April, more than 40 million people used Waze and contributed data to its service.
