Survey: 95% of Developers Updating Their Apps to Support iOS 7, 52% Will Require it

A recent survey of 575 iOS App Store developers dominantly shows them seeing iOS 7 as important to support, with 95% saying they are updating their apps to support the new iOS version, and 52% of them as saying their new apps will require iOS 7 to run.

AppleInsider:

The findings are based on a survey of 575 iOS developers by Twitterrific developer Craig Hockenberry of The Iconfactory.

Hockenberry noted his own plans to Twitterrific, working with designer David Lanham. While he described the shipping version of the app as “feeling old and clunky,” the results of overhauling the interface to reflect Apple’s new design for iOS 7 are “stunning.”

Hockenberry continued, saying that it was a lot more work than previous versions of iOS to support and fit in with the new appearance of iOS 7, adding that the “depth and breadth of the changes in iOS 7 makes it difficult to support older versions of the OS.” He also noted that just over half of respondents replied that their updates would require iOS 7 to work.

Most of the work required to get a native feel on iOS 7 is interface related. Games that use their own interfaces are most likely to remain iOS 6 compatible.

Apple is expected to release iOS 7 this fall, alongside the new model(s) of the iPhone, and possibly the iPad.
