The Free Content Starts Flowing in the Apple Store iOS App

Two weeks ago it was first reported by 9to5Mac that Apple would update their Apple Store iOS app to offer free content to users of the app. Today the free content has begun flowing. The first paid app, which normally goes for $0.99, is Color Zen. Apple is set to provide a new piece of content every week. Freebie content will include apps, ebooks, and iTunes content.

The functionality works both in Apple Stores and actually if you are not in a store. A user just needs to pull up a store inside of the app’s store panel (see image above). When you click the free content option, you are taken to a screen to finalize your download.

It was previously reported that Apple Store employees have been instructed to install the Apple Store app on a new iOS device during the Personal Setup procedure that takes place after any device purchase.

Tim Cook stated last month during an internal event that only a small percentage of Apple customers even knew about the app, but the company wants to use it as a tool in his plan to boost in-store iPhone sales.
