Apple Now Requiring Apple ID to Schedule a Genius Bar Appointment via Their Website

Apple has made a change in how its customers schedule Genius Bar appointments online. The company now requires users to sign in with their Apple ID before making an appointment.

When customers looking to make a Genius Bar appointment visit Apple’s online reservations system, they are now met with the screen seen above, which notes that an Apple ID is needed to proceed.

The new requirement was first reported by TechCrunch on Wednesday, although it isn’t certain when the new requirement first appeared.

Apple reportedly put the policy in place to ensure more control over support appointments, including payments. The new requirement also allows Genius Bar staff to access any customer info tied to the Apple ID, such as previous support instances, hopefully making the process easier for both parties.

Apple made some changes recently in its AppleCare+ extended protection plan, increasing the incident charge for iPhone repairs, and also extending coverage to the iPod touch and iPod Classic. It also rolled out the plan to 3 new countries in Europe.
