Apple Says Help is on the Way for Retina MacBook Pro Keyboard and Keypad Lockups

Wednesday saw Apple adding a section to its Support Pages about the reported keyboard and trackpad lockup issues with its new MacBook Pro with Retina display models. The company says help is on its way.

According to the document, Apple said it is aware of an issue that, in a small number of cases, causes the built-in keyboards and trackpads on late-2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display laptops to stop working. The company is reportedly working toward a solution that should be available soon.

From the Apple Support Page:

Apple is aware of rare circumstances where the built-in keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display (Late 2013) computers and is working on an update to resolve this behavior.

As an interim fix, Apple suggests that users experiencing the issues can reset the keyboard and trackpad by closing the computer’s display to put it to sleep for about one minute. The company says this should temporarily remedy the issue while a more permanent fix is being developed.

The thread for the problem in Apple’s Community Support forum also mentions users having success in remedying the problem by plugging a USB device, such as a flash drive or mouse, into the MacBook Pro’s USB port.

Users began complaining of the lockup issues last week in Apple’s Support Communities forum.

Apple released the new models of the MacBook Pro with Retina display last week, alongside their new OS X Mavericks operating system.
