Gazelle Raises Payouts for iPads as Trade-Ins Spike Following Apple Event Date Leak

In the wake of the leaking of  October 22nd as the date for Apple’s iPad event, used electronics buyer Gazelle has seen nearly a twofold jump in the number of customers looking to lock in a cash offer for their old iPad.

AppleInsider:

Gazelle — a service that pays cash to customers who trade-in their old tablets, phones or computers — said iPad trade-in volume rose 86 percent this Tuesday on a week-over-week basis after AllThingsD confidently reported that Apple would be ready to introduce new models on Oct. 22. On a yearly basis, volume soared a staggering 269 percent, the firm added.

Consumers who lock in a trade in offer right now on their 16GB Wi-Fi iPad mini could upgrade to a new one upon its release for around half price. Gazelle is currently buying the 16GB Wi-Fi iPad mini for $175, and the company expects the new model to retail around $329, so a customer who sells their mini to Gazelle would wind up paying $154 (plus tax) out of pocket for a new iPad mini.

Customers have 30-days to get their old iPad into Gazelle’s hands from the time the offer is made.

If you’d like to sell your iPad of iPad mini to Gazelle, or at least see how much they’d offer you for it, visit the Gazelle website and enter some info about your device and its condition.

If you accept their offer, the company will send you a pre-paid shipping box. Just pop your device in the box and send it to Gazelle. (You can also print a pre-paid shipping label on the website, and use your own box if you wish.)

Gazelle issues a check within 10 business days of receiving the device. You can also speed things up a bit by opting for payment through PayPal. There is also an option to get an extra 5% by taking your payment as an Amazon gift card, or you can donate the proceeds to charity. Nice.

If previous history is an indicator, the payouts for iPads will most likely decline as the October 22nd Apple media even grows closer, so it might be a good idea to get online and lock-in your price now.
