Nike Unveils Its Second-Generation Nike+ FuelBand SE

Nike has introduced their second-generation FuelBand fitness device: Nike+ FuelBand SE. While, other than new color accents,  the new band looks almost exactly like its predecessor, its guts have seen numerous improvements.

The Verge, via iDownloadBlog:

“Besides the slightly updated design, the biggest addition is Bluetooth 4.0. This enables users to track individual sessions and see the points earned in real time. The band is still largely based around Fuel points, which is Nike’s abstracted version of activity quantification.

The main improvement comes to the Nike+ system, which the company says has been refined over the past year to more accurately track different types of activities. The changes also mean that activities that shouldn’t be counted are not, so there’s no more cheating the system.”

The device also features a new hourly reminder feature that asks you to move around, in order to encourage you not to be sedentary for too long.

Improvements in the accompanying app include a new curve graph, and an intensity level that displays points as you work out. You can also name sessions and share them with others.

And Nike would have been completely remiss not to take advantage of the new M7 chip in the iPhone 5s, so the app takes advantage of that to track your movements while conserving power.

The Verge also got some hands-on time with the FuelBand SE:

The FuelBand SE and accompanying apps will be available November 6th for $149. At this time, the device only supports iOS and the Nike+ web portal.
