Apple Says 78% of All Active iOS Devices Are Now Running iOS 7

Apple has released their latest data on iOS 7 adoption, and it says that 78% of all active iOS devices are running the company’s latest flavor of their mobile operating system. That’s up four percentage points from earlier in December.

AppleInsider:

Apple’s figures cover the 7-day period ending Dec. 29, 2013. With iOS 7 covering the lion’s share of Apple mobile devices, iOS 6 remains installed on 18 percent of users’ handsets, while earlier versions of iOS account for 4 percent.

iOS 7’s gains over the last month were entirely at the expense of iOS 6, which saw its share fall from 22% at the start of December. The earlier versions retained their 4% share.

This means that over 96% of all active iOS devices are running one of Apple’s two most recent iOS versions.

As a comparison, the latest developer stats from Google, (December 2nd), show 1.1% of Android devices running their latest version, Android 4.4 “KitKat,” with the lion’s share of devices running “Jelly Bean,” (4.1.x to 4.3), with 54.5%. A surprising number of devices, (24.1%), are still running versions 2.3.3 to 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) – which has not been updated since September of 2011.
