Rumor: Tim Cook to Personally Discuss $4B iPad Deal With Turkish President

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, and select company executives will reportedly visit Turkey in February to personally discuss a possible iPad deal worth over $4 billion with the country’s President, Abdullah Gül. The group will also take time to visit the country’s first Apple Store.

AppleInsider:

According to Turkish language publication emlakkulisi.com (machine translation), Cook will be in Turkey next year to meet with President Abdullah Gül over the country’s so-called “FATIH Project,” which seeks to replace blackboards and textbooks with modern computing devices.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Apple headquarters back in May to inspect the Cupertino tech firm’s latest technological developments.

The initial phase of the FATIH Project calls for the purchase of 10.6 million tablets, which would then possibly be followed up by another buy of an additional 2 – 2.5 million tablets. The initiative is scheduled to roll out over a four-year period, and is expected to cost $3 – $4 billion.

In addition, the report says that Cook is planning to visit Turkey’s first Apple Store, located in Istanbul’s Zorlu Center, which is set to open early next year.
