Apple Drops Windows 7 Support in Boot Camp Installations on New Mac Pro

Owners of Apple’s latest Mac Pro computer who want to use Windows 7 on their new precious via Boot Camp are going to be disappointed, as an updated Apple Support document that lists versions of Windows compatible with the 2013 Mac Pro only lists installations of Windows 8 or later. The 2013 Mac Pro is the first Mac not to include support for Windows 7, via Boot Camp 5.

MacRumors reports that Boot Camp Assistant on the Mac Pro also specifies that it only includes support for Windows 8 or later. Screenshots from Twocanoes Software (via MacWindows) indicate that users are not able to install earlier versions of Windows.

Apple has not commented as to why they’ve discontinued support for Windows 7 on the Mac Pro.

Some Mac Pro users may be upset when they hear the news, as Windows 8 hasn’t exactly been popular with users since its release back in 2012. As of March, Windows 8 and 8.1 hold a mere 10.68% of total worldwide operating system share, while it’s predecessor, Windows 7 still holds a 47.31% piece of the OS pie.
