Apple Testing Suggested Search Terms in iOS App Store Search Results

Apple has begun testing a new suggested search terms feature in its iOS App Store. The new feature presents users with related search terms across the top of the search results page.

The feature apparently hasn’t rolled out to everyone, as 9to5Mac reports one of their guys had it temporarily, and now it’s gone, but it was available on the iPhone we tried here at MacTrast.

The feature was first pointed out by Olga Osadcha (@oosadcha) on Twitter:

“Just noticed “Related” search suggestions in App Store. Has it always been there? (iPhone only)”

Tapping the suggestions at the top of the page takes users to a new search page for that term, which, as pointed out by Osadcha also noted that tapping the suggestions at the top of the page takes the user to a new page where there are even more suggestions.

“What’s interesting is that if you tap on one of the suggestions it leads to other related suggestions, thus producing more and more keywords”

While there hasn’t been an official announcement about the new feature, it looks as if it will be pushed out OTA to users.

Also of note, MacRumors pointed out that it is possible the new feature uses some of the same suggestion technology as “Chomp,” the app search startup that Apple acquired back in 2012.
