A relatively small venue, a couple hundred guys who looked like Mike Brady milling around, visiting small booths, no Steve Jobs, and one huge-ass model of a Macintosh computer with a working screen. That was the first Macworld back in 1985.
Peter Hartlaub, of The SanFrancisco Chronicle writes:
The first MacWorld in 1985 looked much different than the current incarnation, which peaked with more than 50,000 attendees at Moscone Center several years ago. (Macworld/iWorld 2014 is setting up today and begins on Thursday.) Held at the modest Brooks Hall near the Civic Center during that first year, total attendance was at most a few thousand.
While searching the Chronicle’s archives last year, Hartlaub found dozens of negatives of 35mm images from the first Macworld expo. It’s a bummer they’re all black & white, but if you ask me, the B&W photography – by photographer Steve Ringman – really works, considering the subject.
The photos are an entertaining record of the beginning of something we all know and love today – Classic Prince t-shirts.
