Rumor: Updated MacBook Airs as Early as Next Week

A new report from MacGeneration [Google Translate] – citing the ever popular “reliable sources” – says Apple may be planning on updating its MacBook Air lineup as early as next week.

MacRumors:

… the website notes that references have been made towards new devices featuring screens of 11-inches and 13-inches, which are the current display sizes for the MacBook Air.

The MacBook Air was last updated in June 2013, which certainly indicates the ultra-light notebook is due for a refresh. That update included Intel’s Haswell processors, faster PCI Express-based storage, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

If the rumors prove true, the MacBook Air would likely receive a small speed bump, and a few other changes. Apple could choose to use any of the just launched processors for an entry-level model, including the 1.4 GHz i5-4260U1.4 GHz i5-4350U, or the 1.5 GHz i5-4360U

Multiple reports, including one from highly-regarded KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have indicated that Apple is developing a 12-inch MacBook Air. Kuo believes the new notebook will be thinner, and use a fanless cooling system. He says it will feature a Retina display, and a buttonless trackpad.
