Apple’s New Japanese Store Location to Use ‘Green Curtain’ for Climate Control

Japanese Apple site Mac Otakara [Google Translation] reports that Apple’s soon-to-open Omotesando store in Japan will use a unique method of climate control, a “green curtain” of vines.

MacRumors reports that although much of the store remains hidden under large curtains, one entire wall of the building appears to be entirely covered with plant life. Mac Otakara suggests thiswill be used to insulate the store to save energy. The store is located in Tokyo, which has a history of hot and humid weather during the summer months.

The construction walls in front of the store also boast a leafy design, hinting at it’s “green” features. Apple has worked in recent years to lower its carbon footprint. The company’s data centers and corporate facilities get 94% of their energy from renewable sources. Greenpeace featured Apple as a “Green Energy Innovator” back in April.

The Omotesando location could be opening as soon as June.
