iOS 8: Safari Browser Allows Entry of Credit Card Info Via iPhone Camera

iOS 8 brings a new feature to Safari, the entry of credit card information via the iOS device’s built-in camera instead of manually entering it via the keyboard when shopping online.

9to5Mac found that the iOS 8 version of Safari, in addition to allowing users to quickly select credit cards stored in its Passwords & AutoFill settings, also offers the option to select “Scan Credit Card,” and take a photo of the card. Optical Character Recognition then enters the credit card number into the proper field in Safari.

Website developers don’t have to take any steps to enable the feature. Safari appears to automatically recognize when the credit card number is required and offers the option to scan the card.
