‘Yo’ messaging App Zooms Up App Store Charts – Puts Users’ Personal Info at Risk

The ultra-simplistic Yo messaging app debuted earlier this year, and has zoomed up the iOS app Store charts, currently sitting at the number five spot. The app, which simply sends a “Yo” message to your contacts, could be putting your personal information at risk.

TechCrunch reports that three Georgia Tech college students have discovered a security hole that allows a user to discover the phone number of another Yo user, and then spoof a message from any Yo user and send a push notification to a recipient’s device.

Yo has confirmed that the messaging service was experiencing “security issues,” but did not go into details about the issues. Founder Or Arbel told TechCrunch: “Some of the stuff has been fixed and some we are still working on. We are taking this very seriously.”

Arbel said he couldn’t reveal which hacks were still live, but did say that the company has brought in a specialist security team to deal with the issue. Arbel said he hoped the security issues would be fixed “in the next few hours.”
