Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney’s Name “Being Bandied About” for Head PR Post at Apple (UPDATED: “Nope”)

Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is likely one of the candidates to fill the PR Head vacancy Katie Cotton left behind when she retired earlier this year. Re/Code’s Kara Swisher has suggested Carney’s name is “being bandied about” in reference to the position.

MacRumors:

Carney served as White House Press Secretary from 2011 until June of 2014, when he officially resigned. Prior to that, Carney served as director of communications for Vice President Joe Biden and before that, he was the Washington bureau chief for Time magazine.

Katie Cotton, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Corporate Communication, served for more than 20 years, before retiring last May. Cotton, who served under both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook, was known to be highly protective of Apple executives, closely controlling media access, and the company’s PR operations.

Tim Cook has reportedly been heading the search for Cotton’s replacement, looking for a candidate from outside the company, with a “friendly, more open face.”

(UPDATE) – AppleInsider reports that well-connected analyst Jim Dalrymple has weighed in on the report with a “Nope,” adding an unusually verbose “Tim Cook has never even met Jay Carney.”
