Rumor: iWatch Will Come in Two Sizes – Larger Model to Include Sapphire Glass Option

The latest iWatch rumor is fresh off the rumor mill in the Far East, and this one says Apple will release its wearable device in two screen sizes, 1.6 and 1.8-inches. The larger screen will also offer a sapphire glass option. This latest report comes from the Economic Daily News, and was first spotted by G for Games.

AppleInsider notes that the report claims the use of sapphire in the “iWatch” is expected to pave the way for use of the super-hard material in a future iPhone model, suggesting that we won’t see any sapphire screen covers on this year’s “iPhone 6” when it debuts.

The EDN’s report doesn’t exactly jibe with other reports. Well-connected Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who said last week that mass production of the iWatch will likely be pushed back to November, has said he expects the iWatch to be available in two sizes, 1.3 and 1.5-inches. He also believes all of the models will come with sapphire covers.

Some reports have the iWatch screen debuting with an even larger size screen, as a report from Reuters last month claimed the wearable will sport a 2.5-inch touchscreen.

The EDN report also claimed a larger 12.9-inch tablet will be introduced by Apple before the end of 2014. However, Kuo said back in February that he sees a 2014 launch for an “iPad Pro” as unlikely, instead seeing Apple’s focus as being on bringing Touch ID and a faster A8 processor to the iPad Air and iPad mini.
