It’s Official: Apple Welcomes Beats to The Apple Family

Apple officially welcomed Beats Electronics and Beats Music to the Apple family on Friday, after the $3 billion acquisition was finalized.

AppleInsider noted that Apple’s had added a welcome page for Beats on its own website on Friday, indicating Apple received an OK on the deal from the U.S. government. The European Commission had approved the deal earlier this week.

Apple had also confirmed earlier this week that not all of the Beats employees would find a home at Apple. (So no welcome to the family for them. Maybe they can catch on with a “framily”? – Ed.)

Also, Vivendi announced on Friday that it had sold its stake in Beats Electronics LLC to Apple for the sum of $404 million. The company had owned a 13% piece of Beats.

The new Beats section of the Apple website notes that Beats cofounders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre are now Apple employees.

“Today we are excited to officially welcome Beats Music and Beats Electronics to the Apple family,” says the Apple page. “Music has always held a special place in our hearts, and we’re thrilled to join forces with a group of people who love it as much as we do.”

The Beats website also received an update, with the headphone manufacturer telling its customers that “there’s a new instrument in the Apple family.”

“Starting today, we at Beats are fortunate to add our instrument to this legacy by joining Apple,” the Beats site reads. “The products we build together will allow us to reimagine sound once again and to continue this great tradition of bringing imagination to life.”

Beats Electronics also has closed its online store, with the site sending customers to Apple’s Online Store. The company is also advising its customers to contact Apple about any purchases made after August 1, 2014.
