Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Takes The Ice Bucket Challenge, Nominates iPhone 5s, Others

Normally, we do our best to ignore Samsung’s smarmy Galaxy S (fill in the latest number here) videos comparing them to Apple’s latest handset, however, since this one is to benefit a good cause, we’ll make an exception. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 has challenged the iPhone 5s, HTC One M8, and the Nokia Lumia 930 to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

9to5Mac:

The S5, of course, comes with IP67 certification waterproofing features that lets the device be submerged in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes. The HTC One M8 and Nokia devices advertise water resistance features, but don’t include full-on waterproofing like the Galaxy S5. The iPhone, on the other hand, doesn’t include waterproofing features and that has been one of the differentiating features between the devices that Samsung has called attention to in ads before.

I myself wish Apple would add a waterproof feature to the iPhone, then maybe I could stop protecting it in a waterproof case and blocking its natural beauty from view.

The video is for a good cause, and did make me laugh a bit, so we’ll let Samsung slide on this one, and promote their video. +1 for Samsung.

Samsung released the video in support of the Motor Disease Association and has urged people to donate.

(UPDATE) Just before publishing the fine folks over at iMore posted a video of the iPhone 5s taking the challenge, and apparently surviving. The iPhone 5s then challenged “Samsung’s Design Team… If they have one.”
